About Artist

¡ Junko is incredibly skillful, careful, and fun to meet in person. I believe that the theme of her "Fantasy World" on this website will reflect her charm and her specialness.

Junko Otsu

¡ What she is thinking during her painting

She said "it's always fantasy".
She is Japanese. So she has very special mind which is come from her back ground as Japanese.
Calm, quiet, gentleness, peacefulness, happiness, solace, restful, comfort or so.
Her paintings show these expression came up from her inside.
She said also that "it would make her very happy, if her painting can heal the pain that unhappy people suffer, so that they can recover. This is my dream".

¡ Junko's background

She was born in southern Japan. Her home town is very beautiful city which consists of hot springs and sightseeing. Not so small city but not too big.
I believe that one of the reason why her special mind expressed by her many paintings must have come surely from such beautiful nature and quiet environmental back ground.

¡ Her painting history

When she has come from Japan to Irving Texas, North Lake College gave her an opportunity to learn a new painting style. She said that it was her turning point for becoming a new style painter.
She has basically Japanese mentality of course, so she would like to try to combine the two cultures (Japanese and Western) together and get more imaginative, creative and different than her previous experiences.
She says "there is a Japanese proverb Yohaku no Bi (= Beauty of the Blank Space). Japanese think the blank space in the painting has and signifies something more to the viewer. So that I think the blank space in the painting is also important, because people can imagine, think, feel something more through the blank space in the painting."
These pile of her experiences make her as a something new painting style artist such as "New Romanticism Artist".
You can see many of New Romanticism in her painting.
"Bamboo"-Series, "Moonlight Serenade", "Nymph", "Hurt Butterfly", "Summer Breeze", "Moonlight Breeze" and so on. These are surely coming from her very pure, calm, gentle and happy mind.
Also she is changing her painting style day by day. If you see "Intricate Mind", "Fossil", "Life", "Torn Peace", "Life", "Safe Place" and so on are one of the example how she is changing her style. From "Realism" to "Romanticism", "Abstruct" and "Cubism", She is becoming alround player for painting. This is one of her way and her advantage which she is not prepossessed with any prejudices.
